Birthday Celebrations

Dear Families,

We enjoy celebrating birthdays together in 1MW.  If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday at school, there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Please be sure to let me know either via email, phone, or in person if you plan on sending in treats. This way, I will plan to have students start their healthy snacks on time so they will have enough time to enjoy a treat.
  • I ask that treats be items that are quick and easy to pass out. Individual treats like cookies, doughnuts, muffins, or cupcakes work well. Large items like cakes are too difficult to cut, serve, and pass out in 10 minutes.
  • We eat our healthy snacks at 9:40 and serve treats afterward. You can either send treats in with your child in the morning or bring them at 9:40ish. Our recess starts at 10:00 so, in order to be on time to recess, we only have about 10 minutes for treats.
  • You do not need to send in drinks as students usually have them in their snack bags already and they have water in their water bottles as well. Please send in either napkins or small plates if possible. You do not need to send in both.
  • It is okay to send in little treat bags if you would like. I can pass them out at the end of the day for students to take home.
  • If your child has birthday invitations for a celebration outside of the school day, I can pass out the invitations at the end of the day if there is one for each student or if all boys or all girls in the class are invited.

Although birthdays are special, it is important to minimize class disruption as school policy states. This is why we celebrate during snack time. We have so much learning to do each day in first grade that we need every minute! Thank you for understanding how precious our learning time is.

Sincerely,

Ms. Michelle
