In math, we've been working on Module 2 of the Engage NY program (Topic B). We've learning how to add using our friend "Ten". For example, we've learned that 10 and 3 equals 13. When we are given an addition equation such as 9 + 5, we can borrow 1 from the 5 and add it to the 9 to make a "friendly ten". 10 is our friend because we can add to it efficiently which means "quickly and with ease." So, 9 + 5 becomes (or is equivalent to) 10 + 4 and we know 10 and 4 is 14.
Please watch the video below with your child and they can help explain the concept to you! Happy adding!
